L is a tourist visa. US passports are generally approved for 10 years, with a maximum stay of 90 days per visit.
No invitation letter from Chinese relatives and friends or flight/hotel proof is required.

Q2 is a family visit visa. US passports are generally approved for 10 years, with a maximum stay of 180 days per visit.
An invitation letter from Chinese relatives (preferably close relatives) is required, along with a copy of the front and back of their ID card. Please use the template on our website for the invitation letter.

F is generally an academic exchange visa. Regardless of the passport, it is usually only approved for 3 months, single entry, with a stay of 30-90 days per visit.

M is a commercial trade visa. US passports are generally approved for 10 years, with a maximum stay of 90 days per visit.

The Chinese Consulate generally defaults to granting you the visa with the longest validity. For example, if you hold a US passport, tourist and family visit visas are usually approved for 10 years unless your background or documents are sensitive.

If you hold a non-US, non-Canadian passport, you will generally be granted a visa with a maximum validity of 3 or 6 months.

Work Information

If you have more than 5 years of work experience, the content must cover a full 5 years. You can also push the start date back a bit to make up the 5 years.

The consulate will judge whether you have worked for more than 5 years based on your age and education, but if you really don't have 5 years of work experience, please don't worry.

If you retired 2 years ago, you still need to write your work experience for the past 3 years; if you have been retired for more than 5 years, you can select 'Unemployed'.
